Back story from Our founder Henk Koster
Henk Koster 19th March 1926 - 8th October 2012
We were very sad to hear that the original founder of our wonderful club has recently passed away. He was Henk Koster.
Gary Oliver, whom used to play football with Henk’s sons Andrew and Stephen, has kindly sent us a copy of his funeral service, and also a little info about him as below.
"Our sincere condolences go to Henk’s Family".
Henk moved out to NZ in 1953 and set up a Dutch football club (sorry can’t remember the name of it) but this become Hornby Soccer Club. Henk and June moved across town and become stalwarts of the Technical soccer club. June was secretary amongst other things for many years. Henk coached his boy’s teams; I played youth football with Andrew and then senior football with Andrew and Stephen at Technical for many years.
Henk was an avid football fan who knew better than most referees the rules of the game and was never shy in telling them so too, a particular fond memory I have of him is at a match once he was berating the opposition players and referee, when I looked over at him he gave me one of his huge trade mark smiles and a wink, he was forever trying to get under the opposition skin. He was a real character and a big presence in Christchurch football grounds over the years, sadly missed………
